CURRENT MOON |

Welcome to AstroLebanon!
Astronomy is really a beautiful and easy hobby to pick up. Contrary to what most people think you don't need a telescope to get started in astronomy, your eyes will work just fine.
More and more people in Lebanon are showing interest in astronomy and the wonders of the Universe. Many people would like to know the answers to intriguing questions: "Why does Saturn have rings?", "What are stars made of?", "Does E.T. really exist?"....
That's why I've created this website! Consider it a beginner's guide to observational astronomy. Those living in Lebanon and seeking to enrich their knowledge about our Universe will find loads of useful info here. I will keep this site updated and give you tips and advice on how to learn your way around the sky.
However this site will also appeal to amateur astronomers, in Lebanon and elsewhere around the globe, who already have a clear understanding of how things work in our little corner of the Galaxy but would like to stay up to date on anything new going on up there!:)
For the newbies the first thing you need is a clear sky away from city light. But even if you live in a densely populated, light-polluted area, there's more to see up there than you might imagine. Just watch the moon and observe the dark features on it called seas, which are actually filled with lava from ancient volcanoes now dormant. Try to make out constellation patterns overhead using the monthly sky chart in the Night Sky section. You'll quickly learn the names of the constellations, the stars and the planets.
Happy Stargazing!
